Drink and Draw

Join members of the Llano Estacado Art Association for "DRINK AND DRAW" at Undergrounds Coffee, 3421 N Grimes. Grab your sketchbook, buy your favorite drink, and spend some time with other local art enthusiasts. Just show up! No registration...Open to all Adults. No formal instruction. This is time to practice our drawing skills. You are welcome to bring a friend.

HONK Jr. The Musical

HONK Jr. is the musical version of the story of the Ugly Duckling. Kids of all ages will enjoy this 90 minute musical romp through the duck yard as we follow Ugly on a wonderful journey of self-discovery and acceptance. Tickets will be available at the door for $8 (general admission) and $5 (with HMS student or staff ID) Shows for the public are Saturday, February 29th at 2:30 and 6:30 and Saturday, March 7th at 2:30 and 6:30. Featuring HMS middle school and high school actors.

1st Annual Knock-Out Hunger

Family Fun Day – Black History Month

The Western Heritage Museum & Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame is having a FREE Family Fun Day, Saturday Feb 29. Noted Texas historian Henry Crawford will talk about the Buffalo Soldiers by giving a living history of the West and the impact the Buffalo Soldiers made. There will also be family activities and a movie. The event is free for everyone, and includes admission into the exhibits "Grossology - The (Impolite) Science of the Human Body" and "Zoology - The Human Microbiomes".

Classic Films: “Pocketful of Miracles”

Classic films features the Great Divas of Hollywood's Golden Age: Bette and Kate. This week, see the classic movie "Pocketful of Miracles"(1961), starring Bette Davis and Glenn Ford, directed by Frank Capra. Beggar Apple Annie (Bette Davis) learns that her daughter, escorted by an aristocratic suitor, plans to visit. It's great news -- except that she has tricked her daughter into believing she is a wealthy socialite. Fearing her true identity will disappoint, Annie petitions a superstitious mobster (Glenn Ford), who thinks the apples she sells are lucky, for help. Hesitant at first, the mafioso is persuaded by his girlfriend (Hope Lange) to disguise Annie, if only long enough to fool her daughter. Free admission, popcorn and beverage

Distinguished Author Series: David Thomas

The Western Heritage Museum and Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame's Distinguished Author series features David Thomas author of "Killing Pat Garrett, The Wild West's Most Famous Lawman - Murder or Self-Defense?" Admission is free. Pat Garrett, the Wild West’s most famous lawman – the man who killed Billy the Kid – was himself killed on leap day, February 29, 1908, on a barren stretch of road between his Home Ranch and Las Cruces, New Mexico. Who killed him? Was it murder? Was it self-defense? Author David Thomas, drawing on newly discovered information, gives the definitive answer to one of the Wild West’s most famous unsolved killing. Garrett’s life has been extensively researched. Yet, Thomas was able to uncover an enormous amount of new information. David G. Thomas is an author, historian, filmmaker, producer, actor, screenwriter and travel writer. David is also the co-founder of the Pat Garrett Western Heritage Festival and the Friends of Pat Garrett.
