Tiny Census Live Concerts featuring Tim Cummings

Lea County and the City of Hobbs are set to host the Lea County Tiny Census Concerts (TCC) series of local performers, beginning August 20th. Originally a series created and hosted by the group strategizing for the entire state’s complete count on the 2020 Census known as iCountNM, the City of Hobbs and Lea County realized the impact of such an event series. Through the Lea County Tiny Census Concerts, local performers will perform weekly on Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. on Facebook Live feeds on the City and County’s Facebook pages to entertain, express the importance of the Census in their lives, and each concert will end with over $1,000 in gift card giveaways! The gift cards were purchased from local Lea County businesses, including Brown’s Show Fit Co., Martin Boot Co., Albertsons Market, Drylands Brewing Co., Taqueria Jalisco’s, Jimenez Rancho Grande, Undergrounds Coffee Co., Outlaw Grill, and Cornerstone Coffeehouse. Each gift card is for $100, and there are six (6) cards available from each business. In order to qualify for entry in the gift card raffle, a viewer of the TCC must complete their 2020 Census online at 2020census.gov and submit their confirmation code to the email address census@leacounty.net prior to the giveaway at the end of every concert. If you have completed your Census ahead of the concert series, you are still eligible to win! Completing your Census takes an average of 5-10 minutes. It is important to note every resident of a household is to be counted at the residence, even those who are unrelated.

Virtual Staked Plains Roundup

The Western Heritage Museum and Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame is excited to announce Virtual Staked Plains Roundup, September 10 and 11, from 8am - 5pm. Staked Plains Roundup is an annual, two-day event, normally for 4th graders, located on the campus of New Mexico Junior College and hosted by the Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame. This event allows students to visit various presenters, each discussing an aspect of life on the Llano Estacado, or Staked Plains, past or present. Students, teachers, and the community are invited to participate in this virtual event. “We decided to stay with the traditional two-day event,” explained Executive Director, Erin Anderson, “but the virtual platform allows us to offer access to these presenters year-round. We can even add on to the Staked Plains playlist over time.” Visitors who attended the event in the past will notice some of their favorite presenters, but will also find some new faces as well. Children will learn about branding, native plants and animals, New Mexican music, and so much more. Access to the event is free and easy: log on to the Museum’s Facebook (facebook.com/WHMuseum) or Instagram (whmnmjc) for videos and activities posted throughout the days. Want to watch them all at once, or access them later? Check out the Museum’s YouTube channel and click on the Staked Plains playlist. Activities and crafts are for all ages, but younger children may need help from an adult.
