Inventor’s Workshop

Are you an inventor? Do you have an invention? Do you want to obtain a patent for an idea? Attend a FREE Inventor's Workshop on the essentials of obtaining a patent, hosted by New Horizons Foundation, Economic Development Corporation of Lea County, and New Mexico Junior College. All presentations (other than the welcome and closing comments) will be virtual. Attendees may ask questions of the presenters in real time. After the presentations, attendees may sign up to speak to the presenters privately by phone from April 12 through April 16. NOTE: To keep everyone safe in a group meeting, there will be certain requirements for attendance: Masks are required for all attendees There will be 6 feet of social distancing There will be a temperature check for all attendees prior to entering the meeting room Maximum number of attendees will be 15 Register by calling 575-492-4710. Take and Make at the Museum – Celebrating Sharks

The Western Heritage Museum and Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame is happy to present another Second Saturday Take and Make on April 10, 2021 from 10am-1pm. Drive out to the Museum and pick up a craft that is shark themed in honor of their temporary exhibit Megalodon: Largest Shark That Ever Lived. Museum staff will be located at the front of the Museum by the circle and will be wearing masks. All you need to do is drive up, tell them the number of packets you need (the number in the car plus up to two extra), and head home. All supplies will be included minus tape, scissors, and/or glue. This month the museum is also happy to offer a virtual viewing of Shark Tale. The movie will be available all day on April 10 with a link and passcode that you can find on the Museum Facebook or website. Stay tuned for an opening date for the Museum. For now, you can find a sneak peak of the exhibit on the museum’s YouTube page, and stop by April 10th to pick up these shark-related crafts, from 10am-1pm. Neighborhood Clean-up

LET’S ALL WIN, TOSS IT IN THE BIN!! The weather is changing, and with that comes more Neighborhood Clean-up! Gather your family, friends, neighbors, colleagues, and co-workers to help Commissioner Mills clean up District 2. The City of Hobbs Keep Hobbs Clean and Beautiful is having a Neighborhood Clean up on April 10th at 8:00 am. We will meet at the corner of East Bender and Homestead. Volunteers will receive instructions and the supplies necessary to accomplish the task. All the areas we will be cleaning are within walking distance of the meeting tent. Fiesta de Salud 14th Annual Health Fair

Virtual Classic Films: “The Odd Couple”

In light of closures from COVID regulations and renovations in the building, we are offering a "Virtual" Classic Film Series. The specific film will be available for 24 hours on the specified date and you'll be able to access the film through a link with a password. Synopsis: Two friends try sharing an apartment, but their ideas of housekeeping and lifestyles are as different as night and day.

Project Heartburn – 5K Run and Cookoff

Food, Vendors, Cookoff, Entertainment, Fun.  5K runs starts at 9 am.  Food begins at 12 pm.  Cornhole Tournament. $75 per team.  Cash prizes. Project Heartburn is a new event that United Way has developed in partnership with CrudeOil Athletics and The City of Hobbs to raise money and awareness for the ever growing need of hunger and mental health in Lea County. This event will be in two parts. A 5K run set up by Crude Oil Athletics And A cook-off in which we hope to get participation from food trucks, restaurants, Businesses, and general cooking talent.

Megalodon – The Largest Shark that Ever Lived

Walk through full-scale jaws into a 60-foot-long Megalodon sculpture and begin to explore the story of this fantastic ancient creature – its size, structure, diet, lifespan, relatives, neighbors, evolution, extinction and the science that continues to reveal Megalodon’s tale. Tooth-shaped island units support interpretive materials, which include graphics, hands-on components, and family- friendly interactives. The exhibit is object-rich, including numerous fossil specimens from several collections, and life-size and scale models of other fossil and modern sharks.  

Southwest Symphony presents Petroglyph String Quartet Virtual Concert

Southwest Symphony announces its next virtual concert featuring Petroglyph String Quartet on Thursday, April 22 at 6pm.Petroglyph String Quartet performs classical and contemporary works by the world’s greatest composers. Violinists Michael Allerheiligen and Yakima Fernandez, violist Karl Winkler and cellist Anastasia Nellos have performed with professional ensembles including Santa Fe Pro Musica, the Santa Fe Symphony, the New Mexico Philharmonic, the Southwest Symphony, and the San Juan Symphony. The Quartet is noted for innovative programs, energetic and thoughtful performances, and superb musicality, with recitals in Albuquerque at Robertson & Sons Violin Shop recital hall, in Rio Rancho at the Loma Colorado library arts series, in Santa Fe for the Southwest Arts recital Series, and in Durango, CO for the 3rd Avenue Arts recital series.
